Ranbir's lucky escape

Snowmobile accident on the sets of 'Rockstar' could have been serious

Ranbir Kapoor is a lucky man - he recently escaped what could have been a very serious accident on the sets of Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar'. Here's what went down as the team shot a scene in the snow at Pahalgam.

It was just a regular scene, not a stunt, that was being shot with Ranbir riding a snowmobile on a snow-covered road. Suddenly, because of the tricky conditions, RK Jr's snowmobile collided with a barrier on the side of the road.

Obviously, the unit was shocked at what happened. Fortunately, the barrier didn't break and Ranbir was safe. He wasn't really hurt either, just shaken.

Apparently, Imtiaz Ali thought of halting the shoot for the day but Ranbir decided to go ahead with the scene as he had to get back to Mumbai for another shoot.

Ranbir is an uncle!

Rishi Kapoor's daughter Riddhima delivered a baby girl yesterday afternoon

Ranbir Kapoor's sister Riddhima delivered a baby girl yesterday afternoon in New Delhi. The newborn has been named Samara.

Says a friend of the family, "The Kapoors are overjoyed. They have been celebrating as the congratulatory phone calls have been pouring in."

Riddhima and her Delhi-based businessman hubby Bharat Sahni were married in 2006.

Adds the family friend, "Rishi is a nana, Neetu a naani and Ranbir a maama! It still has to sink in."

The entire family was present at the hospital at the time of her delivery. Rishi's sister Rima Jain was also there.

Ranbir had always stated that he would make it a point to be with his sister when the bundle of joy would arrive.

Ranbir, towel dropper!

That's how kids at a special school described the actor when asked about him. Some images never get erased, do they?

Ranbir Kapoor may be more than a few films (and several ads) old but it greatly surprised him that children still associate him with his towel-dropping act from Saawariya.

The actor got a taste of this first-hand at a special school while researching his character for Anurag Basu's Barfee. RK plays a deaf-mute in the film.

Character insights

Says a source from the film, "He has been visiting these schools to get an insight into his character for the film as shooting begins March 20."

During one such visit to a Goregaon school, he attended a class held for the children and even did a few exercises with them.

The li'l ones recognised him immediately and ran to him and started hugging him. He was overwhelmed by their gesture."

After classes, the director and the actor spent time with the children over lunch. After meals, the students were asked through sign language who Anurag was.

They correctly replied that he was a director. When asked about Ranbir, they simply picked up towel and napkins, dropping them from like their bodies, a la RK in Saawariya.

"He found it quite cute, had a good laugh and clapped for them." For his role in Barfee, Ranbir has even been taking sign language classes.
