Arnold Schwarzenegger is back for more Terminator

Arnie wasn’t kidding when he said he’d be back; the Austrian Oak has just signed on to make another Terminator movie.

With his tenure as ‘Governator’ of California over, speculation has been rife over which project Arnie would choose to head back to the movies with.

Now, Deadline confirms that the 63-year-old is sticking with what he knows by returning to the franchise that first made him a household name.

Having signed on to resurrect his Terminator character, Schwarzenegger is now shopping the project around Tinseltown with director Justin Lin in search of studio backing.

Lin’s Fast Five opens this Friday and is expected to be a massive success. If that prophecy is fulfilled, you can bet a studio will jump at a new Terminator film within minutes.

As yet there’s no word on how Arnie and co intend on continuing the franchise, though presumably they’ll be dumping Terminator Salvation director McG’s plans for a trilogy.

Arnie talks True Lies 2 and reteaming with James Cameron

It's no secret that since stepping down as California's governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger is looking to get back into acting.

The Austrian Oak has apparently been approached with potential sequels to his biggest hits, including The Terminator, Predator and The Running Man, but he hasn't signed on for anything yet.

Tom Arnold has recently been talking up a True Lies 2 script that's said to be doing the rounds, and Entertainment Weekly (via ComingSoon) recently took the opportunity to quiz Arnie about a follow-up.

On a potential TS2, he said: "The idea of a True Lies sequel has been around since the early 2000s, but then 9/11 happened and we didn't do it because it had to do with a terrorist attack.

"A lot of terrorist-type scripts were cancelled back then, but now they are emerging again because there hasn't been a terrorist attack in the last 10 years.

"Then, of course, there's dialogue about me getting back into the Terminator thing. But you know, I've been out of office only two months now.

"I couldn't be thinking about doing Terminator 16 while I was still governor."

So, it's pretty noncommittal from Arnie on that front, though when asked if he'd be reteaming with James Cameron for a future film, he tantalisingly responded: "Could be."

True Lies 2 script “is really great”

Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have the pick of Hollywood now that he’s left office and is looking to return to the movies.

But could he opt for True Lies 2 as his big screen comeback? True Lies co-star Tom Arnold thinks the Austrian Oak would be mad not to.

Why? Well, Arnold’s read the script for the blockbuster sequel - which has been scripted by James Cameron and White Collar scribe Jeff Eastin – and thinks it’s ace.

“I have read a great True Lies 2 script,” Arnold tells Movie Web, “and I hope we are able to do it. Knock on wood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited.

“We have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show White Collar, wrote. It is really great.

“Jim can’t direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again.”

No word if Jamie Lee Curtis would be interested in reprising her role as Arnie’s wife, or if Eliza Dushku will return as his daughter (and a potential new ass-kicking heroine).

While this could all just be wishful thinking on Arnold’s part, a sequel to 1994's spy thriller could be an exciting prospect.
